WEEKLY BRIEF

Sep 14 – Sep 20, 2026

THIS WEEK

Portugal EVOO surged +5.9% w/w to €3.655/kg, the week's standout move, with Portuguese Virgin up +4.0% to €3.350/kg. Spain EVOO eased -1.5% w/w to €3.400/kg while Spanish Virgin and Lampante were flat. Italy Puglia EVOO edged up +0.3% to €4.757/kg — the highest listed price across origins — while Puglia Lampante dipped -0.6% to €2.877/kg. Greece Crete Lampante fell sharply, -6.5% to €2.207/kg, even as Cretan EVOO firmed +1.0% to €3.677/kg. The Puglia-Spain EVOO spread sits at €1.357/kg.

WEATHER

Jaén logged zero rainfall this week at ~25.6°C — a dry stress signal worth monitoring as fruit develops toward 2026/27 harvest. Crete received a heavy 58mm, beneficial for oil accumulation. Sfax saw moderate warmth (~27.6°C) with 10mm of rain; Zaghouan drier at 3mm. Conditions across Tunisia and most Mediterranean groves remain broadly supportive for fruit development.

NEWS & DRIVERS

Castilla-La Mancha cooperatives are formally requesting suspension of tariff-free Tunisian oil imports, adding political friction to EU-Tunisia trade terms ahead of 2026/27. Separately, Chile's 17% production drop paired with a 38% export surge signals tighter Southern Hemisphere supply feeding into global blending demand.

TUNISIA & OUTLOOK

The most recent Sfax EVOO export-equivalent price was €4.013/kg, last measured 21 August — no update this week. With Spain EVOO at €3.400/kg and harvest season approaching, buyers covering Q4 requirements should watch how the Tunisian-Spanish differential evolves once fresh Sfax pricing resumes; early-harvest Tunisian lots may find competitive positioning depending on 2026/27 crop signals.
