THIS WEEK
Tunisia (Sfax) EVOO export price dropped sharply to €3.589/kg, down 10.6% week-on-week — the largest single move across all origins this week (provisional reading). Spain (Jaén) EVOO fell 1.3% to €3.430/kg; Italy (Puglia) EVOO eased 0.7% to €4.747/kg. Greece (Crete) Lampante saw the steepest decline among EU grades at -4.5% to €2.207/kg. The Tunisia-Spain EVOO spread narrowed to just €0.159/kg.
WEATHER
Jaén logged zero rainfall this week at ~24.5°C — dry stress worth monitoring as fruit develops ahead of the 2026/27 harvest. Crete received a heavy 57mm, far above other regions; Puglia saw moderate rain (11mm), while Sfax and Zaghouan stayed warm and mostly dry with 4–7mm.
NEWS & DRIVERS
Tunisia's food trade balance posted a surplus of 983.1 million dinars through August, driven largely by olive oil exports — a signal of strong 2025/26 campaign outflows as the season closes September 30. In Spain, rising olive grove land values and MOSH/MOAH contamination prevention efforts ahead of 2026/27 point to tightening quality and cost expectations.
TUNISIA & OUTLOOK
The 10.6% weekly drop in Tunisian EVOO export pricing compresses the premium over Spanish EVOO to under €0.16/kg, the narrowest gap in recent weeks — buyers should note this is a provisional figure and may adjust. For bulk and bottled trade, the near-parity with Jaén EVOO opens a short window to lock in Tunisian origin at competitive levels before 2025/26 campaign stocks are formally closed out.
